Mold Removal, Mold Testing, Black Mold, Toxic Mold, and Musty Odors in Basements and Crawl Spaces.

Do you have a Mold Problem in your basement or crawl space?

Mold is a fungus that grows in damp, wet basements and crawlspaces; and produces a damp, musty odor when active. Mold spores are everywhere, indoors and outdoors. Mold releases airborne spores that travel through the air just like pollen causing mold allergies and even asthma. When the mold spores growing inside your home is greater than the mold outside your home, you have a mold problem. Click here to see pictures of mold growth in a basement or crawlspace.

Black or Toxic Mold in your Basement

flooringBlack, Toxic Mold is a slimy, greenish-black fungus professionally referred to as Stachybotrys and it has been “linked to the death of babies from respiratory bleeding (pulmonary hemosiderosis), and as a contributing factor to illnesses such as bronchitis and asthma”. The fact that black mold has formed in your basement or crawlspace is not unusual. In many cases, it is Cladosporium and not Stachybotrys. The only way to know is to have a local microbiological lab examine samples of the mold from several locations. Regardless of the mold type, the source of its growth is always the same – moisture. If you correct the drainage and moisture problem in your basement and crawl space, you will create an environment that most mold and dust mites will not be able to thrive and reproduce in.

Moldy or Musty Odors in Basement

A mold or musty odor in your basement usually means you have mold in your basement. Mold has been an epidemic with wet basements and damp crawl spaces since the beginning of modern home construction. It accumulates on anything organic in a basement, including wood, carpeting, paneling, drywall, ceiling tiles, cloth, paper, cardboard, and any other organic substance. One of the primary methods to prevent household mold recommended by the Environmental Protection Agency is to reduce indoor humidity levels below 60%. They also recommend removing all sources of water leakage in the home and sealing penetrations in the walls and floors. American Basement Solutions is dedicated to eliminating basement mold and moisture through our mold remediation services. Our products are designed to remove water leakage from your basement floor as well as forming a vapor barrier on your basement walls to seal humidity from seeping through.
